January Wrap-Up

January is the month when everyone states, "New year, new me," and, honestly, for me it's more like "New year, new books." However, being a freshman in college, interferes with my reading goals, yet I managed to read a total of ten books this month.

  • Walking Disaster by Jamie McGuire (4/5 stars)
    • Travis and Abby's story is narrated by the one and only Travis "Mad Dog" Maddox. In this novel, we get to see how Travis' life changed the minute he saw Abby after one of his fights. A life full of drinking, fighting, and women is turnt into a life full of caring, friendship, sacrifices, and love. Travis' narration, in my opinion, gives an edge to this story. I truly recommend this series to people who are into bad boys who end up being actual sweethearts. (Listen to "Thing For You" by Hinder when you read chapter 13)
  • The DUFF: Designated Ugly Fat Friend by Kody Keplinger (4/5 stars)
    • Who knew a word could make a girl go mad? Or madly in love? Bianca is a smart yet insecure girl who ends up hooking up with the hottest guy in school (and the one she hates the most) just to ignore the problems she's trying to avoid at home. Quick and easy read, I recommend it to people who are into enemies to lovers type of relationships. (If you've seen the movie, do not get discouraged! This is completely different from the movie, the only similarities are the main character's name and the word "DUFF").
  • Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix by J.K. Rowling (4/5 stars)
    • Oh, well, what can I say? You guys know all about the Harry Potter World. I am going to be completely honest, Harry is an annoying, 15 year-old who needs to grow up ASAP. It took me a year to finish this book, yet the last 100 pages were amazing. I ended up giving it 4 stars instead of 3. I recommend this series to, well, everyone because it's Harry Potter, you know.
  • The Foxe & the Hound by R.S. Grey (5/5 stars)
    • If you love dogs, this is your book! Sexy vet meets messy dog owner and asks her to pretend to be his girlfriend at a family lunch. Obviously, she can't stay away so she agrees if he hires her as his real estate agent. This is a romantic comedy that I truly enjoyed (you can read this in one sitting).
  • Hate Notes by Vi Keeland and Penelope Ward (4/5 stars)
    • I'm just going to say this: blue notes, a sexy boss, love, teasing, one or two tears. That is it, read it if you dare (you can read this in one sitting).
  • Bossman by Vi Keeland (4/5 stars)
    • Old friend, cousin, new sexy boss. Ahhhhh!!!! This book made me go crazy. Vi Keeland is the queen of writing about sexy bosses. Go read this now, it was so good, I promise (you can read this in one sitting).
  • Naughty by Lucia Jordan (1/5 stars)
    • There was no plot, the characters were plain, and the sex scenes weren't even good. I do not recommend this book.
  • The Wicked King by Holly Black (5/5 stars)
    • The first book in The Folk of the Air Series, The Cruel Prince, was my favorite read of 2018, and the second novel was even better. Holly Black is a phenomenal writer that knows how to create well-developed plots, full-vibrant characters, and amazing enemies to not so lovers relationships. This book is about a human girl living in Faerie, who, surprisingly, has all the power to control the dark-haired king with a tail, yet she is not powerful enough to stop the people closest to her from betraying her.
  • Siege and Storm by Leigh Bardugo (5/5 stars)
    • This is the second novel in the Grisha Trilogy. I can't even describe this book, but I love it so much. This series has become one of my ultimate favorites, and I cannot explain how I feel about the characters. They are powerful, funny, charming, beautiful, mysterious, and they're everything I want in my life. The writing style is extraordinary and it flows beautifully.
  • Ruin and Rising by Leigh Bardugo (5/5 stars)
    • This is the third novel in the Grisha Trilogy, and let me tell you that the ending had me speechless. I read the last five chapters of this book in my university's library, in front of about 50 students, and well, I cried. It was not one or two tears. I was quietly ugly crying. I recommend this series to anyone who enjoys reading fantasy that contains romance.
